Dusky Sound & Anchor Island

I feel honoured to have been invited on a DOC/ Fiordland Conservation Trust week long trip to Dusky Sound. This is the second time I will have visited Dusky – I still think of it as one of the most beautiful places in the world I have ever painted. The last time I produced 3 bodies of work about Dusky – one was painted on location, dealing with the ever present rain and transportation problems; the second reflected my fascination with the story of the moose, the third was about the early people who lived in this remote wet place. This trip I will continue working on location on small works on paper – less logistic problems in the helicopter!!

I’m looking forward to Anchor Island in my wet weather gear and camp stool, coming nose to nose with a kakapo!!!

Pastel Artists of New Zealand National Convention (PANZ), Invercargill

This was a lovely weekend with a great group of people!  I highly recommend joining this group!  Judging, presenting a cloud workshop, gallery floor talk – commenting on each work in the exhibition, after dinner speaker (move over Billy Connolly – Janet de Wagt is here) and en plein air day workshop.  This painting was used as a focal point in my after dinner speech as an example of what you can do with pastels working on different surfaces.

The Mataura River Art Project

Eight months work is coming to fruition.  I have worked with over 1800 children from 21 schools to produce over 500 works that celebrate the mighty Mataura River.  The opening is 14 March, 6pm at Croydon Aviation Heritage Museum, which is about 15 minutes from Gore in Mandeville.

(t)here in a year

A series of small gouache paintings highlighting the fact that I am travelling the highways of the South repeatedly.  I hope to have completed a small painting a day for a year!  The exhibition opens on 8 November at Gallery De Novo, Dunedin, New Zealand.

Lake Wanaka

My first painting of a series back at Wanaka for the first time in 4 years –  because I have been everywhere else…..  If you are interested in paintings of this area please email me or contact Gallery de Novo.

I’m back!

After many artistic adventures I’m back and my next exhibition, ‘Paintings from the Suitcase’, will be from 26 October at Gallery De Novo, Dunedin, New Zealand.  These paintings are from Ireland and Germany.
